More Bodies in 2008: Another Chance to Take the Journey of Your Life

Ready for the journey of a lifetime? Well, due to the overwhelming popularity of BODIES...The Exhibition, the New York showing has been extended through 2008! Now NYC locals and visitors alike have the opportunity to enjoy the captivating and fascinating exhibition for another year.

BODIES...The Exhibition, one of the most talked-about attractions in New York since November 2005, offers the chance for visitors to see their body from a viewpoint that was once reserved for doctors and scientists. With preserved whole-body specimens as well as organs and partial-body specimens on display, visitors can see exactly "what lies beneath" and the complex systems involved in the activities that are a part of daily life.

There are even more features, such as a Premium Package that includes admission, an audio guide, and free catalogue. There's also a VIP Experience that includes admission, a guided tour, special scrubs that cannot be purchased by the general public, and the chance to skip to the front of the line. Visitors will enjoy learning about their bodies more than ever in 2008. The Exhibition also offers a special children's audio tour, as well as four age-specific teacher's guides, from elementary to post-graduate levels.

"Your body is the only thing that you carry with you from the moment you are born until your last breath. Yet we know surprising little about ourselves," said Dr. Roy Glover, Professor Emeritus of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Michigan and Chief Medical Director for the Exhibition, a medical educator with more than 30 years of experience. "We have pulled back the curtain and allowed the public to see it for themselves, up-close and personal."

In addition to providing an up-close look inside our skeletal, muscular, respiratory, and circulatory systems, the 30,000-square-foot exhibition encourages healthy lifestyle choices by serving as a wake-up call that demonstrates how our own choices directly affect our health. The exhibition changes the way people see themselves while enlightening, empowering, fascinating, and inspiring visitors as young as four-years-old!

Housed in New York's timeless South Street Seaport, BODIES...The Exhibition has given over a million New York locals and visitors the opportunity to see their own bodies in a fascinating way. The human body specimens in the exhibition are preserved through a revolutionary technique called polymer preservation. In this process, human tissue is permanently preserved using liquid silicone rubber that is treated and hardened. The end result is a rubberized specimen, preserved to the cellular level, showcasing the complexity of the body's many bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and organs. The full-body specimens can take over a year to prepare and after undergoing the polymer preservation process, they become impervious to decomposition.

While you're in the neighborhood, be sure to check out the rest of South Street Seaport, a slice of New York's history as a thriving port city. Visitors to this historic waterfront pier and cobblestone streets experience a thriving community that includes breathtaking views, award-winning special events, more than 100 shops, cafes and restaurants, and a world-class maritime museum. The South Street Seaport Museum (207 Front St., 212-748-8600; www.southstseaport.org) presents exhibitions in their galleries, and holds the largest privately owned collection of historic vessels (in tonnage) in the United States.
