Turmeric hails from India and Southeast Asia. Often referred to as the golden spice, it’s a member of the ginger family and has a long history of use in Ayurvedic medicine. Made from the ground roots of the flowering plant, the spice boasts a bright yellow color. Many mixologists have been using the ingredient to add some spice to cocktails, lattes, juices, and teas—here's where to find this trending spice in NYC.

Downtown venue The Dead Rabbit’s Beverage Director Jillian Vose entices spice enthusiasts with a new cocktail menu, which stars the Watch Tower. The libation boasts the flavors of American grape brandy and Irish whiskey with an unexpected twist of Greek yogurt. There’s also splashes of pineapple and peach, and cacao along with bright spices such as turmeric and cinnamon. “Using turmeric in a drink brings subtle and bright spice. We combine ground turmeric in a citric acid solution with lime zest to amplify this. Just a dash or two can add another layer, leaving guests going back for another sip to seek out what that underlying flavor is,” reveals mixologist Jillian Vose. 30 Water St., 646-422-7906, deadrabbitnyc.com
