Through 160 works of painting, sculpture, photography, film, and ephemera, this exhibit explores the impact of Black culture in NYC's Harlem and nationwide during the 1920s–40s. Featuring artists such as Charles Alston, Aaron Douglas, and Meta Warrick Fuller, it dives into the early decades of the Great Migration, when millions of African Americans began to move away from the segregated South. It also tells the story of the Harlem Renaissance, demonstrating how the development of the Black subject served as instrumental to the advancement of modern art around the world.
