Broadway on Broadway 2009 - Kicking Off the 2009-2010 Theater Season

The Broadway League and the Times Square Alliance proudly present the 18th Annual Broadway on Broadway, presented by Buick LaCrosse and Continental Airlines on Sunday, September 13th. The annual free outdoor concert brings together stars and performances from current Broadway productions to celebrate the beginning of the new season, and offers a special sneak peak at shows making their Great White Way debut this fall.

Broadway on Broadway features performances and appearances by cast members from Broadway’s most popular musicals and plays, including recent Tony Award winners and nominees. The concert stage will be set up in the heart of the Crossroads of the World at 43rd Street and Broadway, and fans should arrive early for a good spot in the crowd of 50,000-plus expected to attend. The concert represents a once-a-year opportunity for theater fans of all ages to enjoy an unprecedented gathering of Broadway shows and stars, performing live in one of the most dynamic outdoor performance venues and urban spaces on the planet: Times Square.

This year’s Broadway on Broadway concert is one of the highlights of Back2Broadway Month, a series of concerts, free events, talk-backs, discount dining deals and more celebrating the launch of the new season and offering not only an in-depth look at the stars and shows, but opportunities to economically enjoy a day or evening on the Great White Way. (A full listing of Back2Broadway events is available at www.ILoveTheater.com.)

The star-studded and growing list of performers for the 2009 event includes multi-Tony winner Billy Elliot, brand new productions like Burn the Floor, Fela!, Finian’s Rainbow, Memphis and Ragtime, as well as some of Broadway’s most beloved shows, including Chicago, In the Heights, Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, Next to Normal, West Side Story, Wicked and more (subject to change).

The outdoor stage of Broadway and Broadway has traditionally been graced with a variety of celebrity hosts and special guests. Hosts in recent years have included Drew Lachey, Lance Bass, Christina Applegate and Martin Short.
