Sneaking in Right Before Mother's Day -- Talk Radio Hits 100 Performances

Talk Radio, now playing at the Longacre Theatre, will be celebrating its 100th performance on May 12, making it the longest-running revival of an American play currently on Broadway. The play, written by Eric Bogosian, has earned rave reviews from critics around the country who have called the show “100 minutes of pure theatrical adrenaline” (David Cole, Time Out NY), “hypnotic” (David Rooney, Variety), “riveting” (Clive Barnes, NY Post) and “the most electrifying and wildly funny 100 minutes on Broadway” (Pat Collins, WWOR-TV). Liev Schreiber’s performance especially has been singled out this season by critics who refer to it as “mesmerizing” (Joan Hamburg, WOR Radio) and “a performance of riveting intensity” (Linda Winer, Newsday) and Ben Brantley of The New York Times declares the show a “gut-grabbing revival that confirms Liev Schreiber’s status as the finest American Theater actor of his generation.” For City Guide's take, click here.

Given the controversy over what’s actually happening over the airwaves right now, Talk Radio could not seem more relevant. In this new “Don Imus” age, where radio hosts jobs are constantly threatened for voicing their opinion, whether good or bad, the often rude, never apologetic character of Barry Champlain (Schreiber) seems a timely reminder of today’s contentious atmosphere on the airwaves.

Recently nominated for “Outstanding Revival” by the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama League and for Outstanding Actor (Liev Schreiber) by the same organizations “Talk Radio” currently plays Tues.-Sat. at 8pm with 2pm matinees on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday.
