The Jazz Gallery Residency Commission 2018-2019 Presentskassa Overall Time Capsule Final Performance!
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Nikara Warren describes herself as being 'bathed' in music and the arts since birth. As the product of a mixed culture family, Nikara's aesthetic is a direct reaction to the music she grew up with. Her newest project, 'Black Wall Street' is a set of 'feel-good' tracks designed as an ode to Black Excellence to counteract the emotional trauma caused by news of Black people being slain by police. Nikara draws from from music affected by the Black Experiences and brings awareness to the Black Wall Street massacre of 1921, while remaining hopeful about the future and emphasizing the positive effects of diversity in the arts. Political Gangster Trilogy The creator of musical group Black Wall Street brings musicians together to highlight artists who compose songs that respond to the current state of affairs in the world of the artist. Highlighted topics include race, socio-economic class and gender roles. Nikara uses artists of the past along with current composers to highlight topics that we are still discussing and working though today. "It's an artist's duty to reflect the times…" -Nina Simone
