Presented in partnership with the American Federation of the Arts, this lecture will critically examine historical and present-day examples of monuments in the United States. It complements the exhibition Monuments and Myths: The America of Sculptors Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Daniel Chester French, traveling with the AFA through 2025. Andrew Eschelbacher, PhD, the lead curator on Monuments and Myths, will moderate the panel discussion with sculptor Alvin Pettit, Vice President and Chief Curator at the New York Historical Society Wendy Ikemoto, and Professor Emeritus of Art History at Stony Brook University Michele H. Bogart.
